Public Defender
Mission:

The Public Defender’s Office is charged with the responsibility to represent indigent people in:

Juvenile delinquency proceedings

Pre-trial identification procedures
*

Preliminary hearings

State habeas corpus proceedings

State trials, including pre-trial and post trial motions

*

Superior Court appeals

*

Pennsylvania Supreme Court appeals

Post conviction matters

Criminal Extradition proceedings

Probation and Parole matters

Mental health proceedings

Any other situation where representation is constitutionally required

  

In addition to the services required by the Pennsylvania Public Defender Act, the County requires that the Public Defender represent:  

Parents of Children in dependency proceedings

Parties accused in Protection from Abuse proceedings

Contempt in child support proceedings
Our duty is to work hard to ensure that the indigent get a fair shake.
