Services
Each Area Agency on Aging uses funds to provide directly, or to subcontract with local organizations, for a wide array of services for older Monroe County residents.

Information & Referral
This service helps people to clarify needs, offers guidance in selecting alternative solutions, links people to appropriate services, and has up-to-date information on issues, programs and benefits affecting older persons. 
Transportation
Transportation is provided for Senior Centers and other necessary purposes such as medical appointments and food shopping to persons 65 years of age and older who do not have access to a vehicle or whose physical condition prohibits them from public transportation. 
 
Volunteer Transportation may be provided for out of county medical appointments to person 60 years of age and older. This requires availability of vehicles and volunteers, so advanced notice of 1-2 weeks is necessary.
Apprise
This program is a health insurance counseling program assisting older persons with counseling services, paperwork assistance and education in the area of health insurance.
Legal Assistance
The SeniorLAW Helpline is a free hotline. They offer legal information, advice and referral services to Pennsylvania Residents who are 60 years or older.
Ombudsman Service
The ombudsman program includes and impartial evaluation and assistance in resolving complaints regarding the quality of care provided to consumers of long-term care.
Newsletter
The Monroe County Area Agency on Aging publishes a monthly newsletter with the timely information on services, benefits, socialization events etc.

Senior Community Activity Centers
Senior Centers offer group focused activities including a nutritious noon meal to eligible persons. Activities include: recreation, socialization and education.
Private Senior Citizen Clubs
There are over two (2) dozen private senior citizen clubs in the area. Although not under the auspices of the Monroe County Area Agency on Aging, the Area Agency on Aging does provide guidance for existing groups and clubs by keeping them abreast of benefits and programs available to them.
Adult Day Care
Adult Day Care provides functionally disabled older adults with an array of activities in a protective environment. Currently centered are located at the Devereux Foundation, Newfoundland/Honesdale, Palmerton Hospital, Palmerton and Blue Mountain Health Systems, Brodheadsville Campus . .
Friendly Visitor
By visiting lonely or isolated older persons on a regular basis, volunteers alleviate loneliness and check that all is well. There is also Phone Pal program where volunteers will call to check in with lonely or isolated persons.
Pre-admission Assessment  
This program provides pre-admission assessments to clients applying for admission to personal care homes, nursing facilities and PDA Waiver program. The assessment process results in the determination of the medically approved care level.
Pre-admission Screening Program
Evaluations are completed for Nursing Home applicants who have been identified as mentally ill, mentally retarded or having another condition. The Area Agency on Aging Evaluator will make recommendations regarding the applicant's need for active treatment and/or nursing home placement. 
Pennsylvania Department of Aging Medical Assistance Waiver Program 
The PDA Waiver provides in-home services to consumers 60+ who are medically eligible for nursing home care and financially eligible for Medical Assistance. The purpose of the program is to assist consumers to remain at home, who might otherwise be placed in a nursing facility.
